2012 Lexington Little League
Softball Program
How each league works and a general timeline for the
2012 season.
Softball T-ball is a combined league for K and First Graders. Teams are formed
with all attempts made at keeping children from each elementary school together.
Teams will have one game per week and one on Saturday. The games are three
innings long with a chance for each player to bat each inning. Games generally
last one hour. The focus is on having fun while learning some of the basics of
softball. A soft safety baseball is used in this league.
Farm league is for Second Grade girls only. Teams are formed within each school
with some schools combined, depending on the number of players. Teams will meet
twice a week - one game on Saturday and one combined team practice/scrimmage
during the week. A safety baseball is used in this league.
Minor league is for Third and Fourth grade girls. New minor league players (all
third graders and new fourth graders) are rated prior to the season in order to
spread the talent evenly across all teams. Teams are chosen by managers and
coaches, who will then notify players of the team assignment prior to season
start.
Major league is for Fifth and Sixth grade girls. New major league players (all
fifth graders and new sixth graders) are rated prior to the season in order to
spread the talent evenly across all teams. Teams are chosen by managers and
coaches, who will then notify players of the team assignment prior to season
start.
Please note that for Minor leagues and above, teams are no longer aligned with
the grade schools. Your daughters will get the chance to meet and start new
friendships with girls from other schools.
IMPORTANT: If your daughter is a new minor or major league player (and you have
did not attend the first ratings session), you must make every effort to attend
ratings on Saturday, January 21st at the LHS fieldhouse. Minors is from 1:00 to
2:00 and Majors is from 2:30 to 3:30.
General 2012 Timeline:
January: Registration and ratings
